UConn rallies, avoids upset

HARTFORD, Conn. --- Connecticut got bigger Sunday with the addition of 6-foot-11 freshman Ater Majok. It wasn't immediately clear whether the Huskies have gotten better.

Stanley Robinson scored 26 points as No. 14 UConn came from behind to beat Central Florida 60-51.

Robinson scored 23 of his points in the second half, helping Connecticut (7-2) overcome a nine-point deficit. Jerome Dyson added 16 points, despite hitting just five of 15 shots from the floor.

Majok had a less than auspicious debut, scoring a single point and grabbing three rebounds.

Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun said a new multiyear contract with the school is "right on the horizon" but that no deal has been reached. The 67-year-old denied a report Saturday by ESPN.com that said he had agreed to a five-year contract.

Calhoun, who has two national titles and took the Huskies to the Final Four last season, is making $1.6 million in 2009-10, the final year of a six-year deal.

Kentucky: The program which proudly proclaims it has "the greatest tradition in college basketball" is ready to add another bullet point to its résumé.

A win over Drexel today would make the third-ranked Wildcats the first team in NCAA history to reach 2,000 wins.

Though the achievement might be lost on the current players -- junior forward Patrick Patterson called it "no big deal" -- coach John Calipari understands the greater meaning.

"It's important to the Commonwealth," he said.
