19th-ranked Gamecock women rout rival Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. –– Four of five starters reached double figures in scoring, led by Aleighsa Welch’s double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, and the 19th-ranked South Carolina women routed archrival Clemson 68-43 on Wednesday night.

The Gamecocks (5-0 SEC) remained unbeaten on the season in picking up the team’s first road victory, as Tiffany Mitchell added 14 points and Elem Ibiam and Khadijah Sessions chipped in with 10 each. The Tigers (1-3 ACC) were led in the game by Chelsea Lindsay’s team-high 12 points. Charmaine Tay added 11 points.

Clemson got as close as 14 points with 16:47 to go, but the Gamecocks went on an 11-4 run led by 3-pointers from Sessions to push the margin over 20 points.

MICHIGAN 83, PITTSBURGH 75

In Ann Arbor, Mich., Siera Thompson scored a game-high 22 points and Nicole Elmblad added 19 points as Michigan (4-2 Big 12) beat Pittsburgh (2-2 ACC). Loliya Briggs led the Panthers with a team-high 14 points.

SYRACUSE 113, MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE 42

In Syracuse, N.Y., Brianna Butler scored a game-high 23 points and Brittney Sykes added 19 points as Syracuse (4-0 ACC) stayed unbeaten after blasting Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-3 MEAC).

LOUISIANA STATE 73, HAMPTON 54

In Baton Rouge, La., Theresa Plaisance and Shanece McKinney scored 14 points each and Louisiana State (3-1 SEC) dropped Hampton (2-1 MEAC).

Nicole Hamilton led the Pirates with a game-high 27 points.
