Top-5 showdown between Clemson, Florida State produces ticket demand

  • Follow Clemson

How high is the demand for Saturday’s showdown between undefeated football teams Clemson and Florida State?

Try $200 or more. And that’s just for a parking pass.

Tickets to the Atlantic Coast Conference game will cost extra.

Popular online auction sites StubHub and eBay had more than 500 listings for the sold-out game Monday.

Asking prices ranged from just over $150 for a single ticket to packages that included tickets and parking in the $1,500 to $2,000 range.

One fan is offering a single ticket for $99,999 on StubHub. The seat is located on the visitor sideline in section R at Memorial Stadium.

Demand is high because the No. 3 Tigers play host to the No. 5 Seminoles in what is being billed as the first top-five showdown to ever be played in the Palmetto State.

The 8 p.m. contest will be televised nationally (ABC-Ch. 6), and ESPN’s College GameDay crew will make its second visit to Clemson this season. In the Aug. 31 opener against Georgia, Clemson recorded a 38-35 victory despite Lee Corso’s prediction for a Bulldogs’ win.

Clemson and Florida State have had plenty of interesting matchups in the past.

In 1988, the visiting Seminoles knocked off No. 3 Clemson 24-21 in a game that featured the “puntrooski.” Bobby Bowden called for a trick play on a fake punt, and Florida State’s Leroy Butler ran 78 yards to set up the winning field goal.

In 1999, the first Bowden Bowl was played. Florida State’s legendary coach Bobby took on his son Tommy, who coached Clemson. The Seminoles prevailed 17-14 to give the elder Bowden his 300th win.

Florida State won last year’s meeting, 49-37, and leads the all-time series 18-8, but Clemson has won the past five games at home against the Seminoles.

SATURDAY’S GAMES
  • Georgia at Vanderbilt, noon (CBS-Ch. 12)
  • South Carolina at Tennessee, noon (ESPN)
  • Syracuse at Georgia Tech, 12:30 p.m. (Fox-Ch. 54)
  • Florida State at Clemson, 8 (ABC-Ch. 6)

"No. 3 Tigers play host to the No. 5 Tigers"

That should be No. 5 Seminoles.

Aaaah, I can't wait until

Aaaah, I can't wait until next year when Clemson comes to Athens. Already have plans for selling my tickets for BIG BUCKS, just like the Clemson folks did to us Georgia fans! Hey, they're on the fifty-yard line folks, so go ahead and get in your ticket request NOW!! I might even sell my parking pass while I'm at it!
Okay...enough of that! Looking forward to seeing this game.
One bit of advice to the FSU fans going to the game....even if you have a parking pass, make sure you get to Clemson EARLY..and I'm talking EARLY!! We had 2 parking passes and the person running the lot admitted that Clemson OVERSOLD all their parking lots! Yup..we were on our own! (Should've taken that as a sign, huh? LOL!)

Ranking

"That should be No. 5 Seminoles." At least until the rankings come out next week. Then the Seminoles might be #3.
