Danny Ford to be inducted into Clemson Ring of Honor

 

CLEMSON, S.C. — The coach who led Clemson football to its only national championship will be inducted into the school’s Ring of Honor.

Danny Ford will be honored at a football game this fall, his name joining other Tigers greats like Frank Howard and Jeff Davis, the captain of Ford’s 1981 national title team.

Along with the national championship, Ford went 96-29-4 in 11 seasons with the Tigers, winning five Atlantic Coast Conference titles.

But he did not leave Clemson on good terms after the school severed ties with him because of NCAA problems.

Ford and Clemson have reconciled in recent years. Ford says he appreciates the honor and that Clemson will always be a special place to him.

Former baseball coach Bill Wilhelm will also join the Ring of Honor this fall.
