Clemson running back Andre Ellington worked out for at least 20 NFL teams Friday, a month after a hamstring injury forced him to pull up while running the 40-yard dash at the league’s scouting combine.

Ellington posted an unofficial time of 4.51 seconds in the 40-yard dash at Clemson’s indoor football practice facility. He had a time of 4.61 at the combine.

The two-time 1,000-yard rusher dealt with hamstring problems late season, yet started all 13 games and led the Tigers with 1,081 yards rushing.

Ellington withdrew from the Senior Bowl in January after re-injuring his hamstring, and he missed Clemson’s Pro Day on March 7. Ellington is projected by draft analysts to go anywhere from the second to fourth rounds.

KENTUCKY: Defensive tackle Donte Rumph was scheduled to have right shoulder surgery Friday. First-year Wildcats coach Mark Stoops says the senior will be sidelined until the fall.

Rumph injured the shoulder during Monday’s workout and was evaluated at midweek. Stoops didn’t specify what type of injury he sustained but says he expects Rumph to make a full recovery and “be back by the fall.”

TENNESSEE: The Volunteers are focusing on fundamentals in its attempt to improve a defense that statistically ranked among the worst in school history last season.

The first area of concern is tackling, something the Volunteers didn’t do often enough or well enough a year ago.

“To line up and play defense, you’ve got to be great tacklers,” safety Byron Moore said. “If you can’t tackle, it doesn’t matter what scheme we put in or what play we call if we can’t get the man on the ground.”

Tennessee allowed the most points (35.7) and yards (471.4) per game of any Southeastern Conference team last season.

The Vols hadn’t allowed that high a scoring average since 1893, when they gave up 42.7 points per game while playing a six-game schedule.
