Georgia women cruise to win in tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Khaalidah Miller had 22 points and five steals to help No. 8 Georgia beat St. Bonaventure 84-48 on Friday in the opening round of the University of New Mexico’s Thanksgiving Tournament.

Tiara Griffin added 14 points as five Bulldogs (6-0) reached double figures.

Georgia will play either New Mexico or North Texas today.

SOUTH CAROLINA 65, FLORIDA GULF COAST 46

In St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Ashley Bruner scored 15 points and Aleighsa Welch had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead South Carolina (6-0) past Florida Gulf Coast (2-3) in the Paradise Jam.

The Gamecocks (6-0) will play DePaul today.

SYRACUSE 75, GEORGIA TECH 72 (OT)

In San Juan, Puerto Rico, Elashier Hall had 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Syracuse (5-0) past Georgia Tech (2-2) in overtime at the San Juan Shootout.

Georgia Tech’s Dawnn Maye led all scorers with 26.

The Yellow Jackets will play Milwaukee today.

MONTANA STATE 58, CLEMSON 52

In Dallas, Montana State (3-0) built a 15-point halftime lead and held off Clemson (0-4) in the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic.

NO. 2 CONNECTICUT 81, MARIST 39

In St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, freshman Breanna Stewart had 20 points and 10 rebounds to help Connecticut (4-0) continue to roll through the Paradise Jam with a rout of Marist (2-3).

Connecticut will close out the tournament today against No. 14 Purdue, which beat Wake Forest 67-53 on Friday.

NO. 3 BAYLOR 92, LIBERTY 60

In Waco, Texas, Kimetria Hayden scored 12 of her 18 points in the first 5½ minutes and Baylor (5-1) cruised against Liberty (2-3).

Brooklyn Pope had 13 points for the Lady Bears, while two-time All-American center Brittney Griner had 11 points and four rebounds – giving her 999 in her career – while playing 20 minutes.

NO. 4 DUKE 90, VALPARAISO 45

In Durham, N.C., Elizabeth Williams scored 18 points to help Duke (3-0) rout Valparaiso (2-3).

Haley Peters scored 16 points for Duke. Chelsea Gray and Ka’lia Johnson had 11 points each for the Blue Devils.

NO. 5 NOTRE DAME 76, NO. 19 UCLA 64

In Los Angeles, Jewell Loyd had 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Kayla McBride scored 18 points, and Notre Dame (4-0) knocked off UCLA (2-1).

NO. 6 PENN STATE 80, DETROIT 72

In Los Angeles, Maggie Lucas scored 22 of her 27 points in the second half and Ariel Edwards scored 19 of her career-high 24 points in the first half to help Penn State (4-0) hold off pesky Detroit (2-2) in the Cal State Northridge Tournament.

NO. 9 KENTUCKY 63, MOREHEAD STATE 37

In Lexington, Ky., Samarie Walker had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Kentucky (3-1) rolled over Morehead State (1-4).
