COLUMBIA — A person familiar with the decision says Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele is no longer with the team.
The person told The Associated Press Thursday that Steele was not fired but would did not say whether or not Steele’s departure was his own decision. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because Clemson has not announced the move.
Steele and Clemson’s defense had come under heavy criticism after giving up a bowl-record 70 points in the Tigers’ embarrassing loss to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl last week.
Steele has been Clemson’s defensive coordinator the past three years.
He's still playing a cover 2. No need to change now.
I had nightmares after that game. I could see WV players running all over me. You know Clemson also had those projected high draft picks on defense, too. Something wasn't right.
Dabo, the head cheerleader, errr coach, had no choice. Somebody had to be the scapegoat! What did you expect after the Orange Bowl massacre!
