Charleston wins opener of series with Augusta

Four Charleston pitchers limited Augusta to four hits in a 4-1 victory over the GreenJackets on Friday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Augusta (37-30) scored its run in the third inning, on Shawn Payne’s 57th RBI of the season.

Payne’s sacrifice fly scored Elliott Blair, who had reached to start the inning on a throwing error by shortstop Cito Culver.

Augusta plays host to Charleston today, Sunday and Monday to close out the season.
