The Single-A affiliate, of the reigning World Series champion Giants, will have two familiar faces on the roster, a few recent draft picks and one young prospect that came with a large price tag.
Rafael Rodriguez, who got a reported $2.55 million bonus when he signed with the Giants on his 16th birthday two years ago, will patrol the GreenJackets’ outfield as he plays a full-season schedule for the first time.
Josh Mazzola, who led the South Atlantic League with 96 RBI in 2009, will return to Augusta after sitting out nearly all of last season with an injured shoulder.
Infielder Ydwin Villegas will also spend a second season in Augusta.
Last year’s fourth-round pick, Seth Rosin, will start the season as one of 13 GreenJackets pitchers, along with right-hander Matthew Graham, a sixth-round pick in 2009.
After two seasons under the leadership of manager Dave Machemer, the GreenJackets will have a new leader this summer. Former hitting coach Lipso Nava will take over the rei ns in his first season as a manager.
The GreenJackets will open the season in Greenville on Thursday night.
