A battle of stingy left-handers early resulted in a scrap for runs in Saturday’s series-opener with Asheville.

The Augusta GreenJackets finally broke through with the help of a couple of errors to grab three runs in the seventh to take a 4-1 win over the Tourists at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

After two errors to begin the bottom of the seventh inning, Augusta’s Alberto Robles singled home the go-ahead run. Center fielder Jesus Galindo followed with a two-run single.

It was a tough end to Asheville starter Jayson Aquino’s outing, allowing one earned run and four total on six hits in 6⅓ innings, striking out five.

Aquino, ranked ninth in the Colorado Rockies system by Baseball America, displayed a solid combination of changeups and curveballs to complement a fastball he commanded well.

Augusta (13-13) starter Matt Lujan continued his streak of solid pitching by allowing one run on five hits in seven innings, walking three and striking out seven.

Lujan displayed his best swing-and-miss stuff so far this season against a Tourists lineup with four left-handed batters. The lefty also induced 10 ground balls and has thrived off avoiding hard contact this year.

“I like to throw to lefties; it’s a positive for me,” Lujan said. “It lets me throw my fastball into them, then the slider was working, as well.”

The GreenJackets scored their first run in the sixth on an RBI double by Mitch Delfino. The designated hitter has a double in each of his past four games and has four hits in his past two games.

Asheville (12-15) scored its lone run in the fifth on a sacrifice bunt by Juan Ciriaco that brought home a runner from third.
