Dr. James Andrews will perform the procedure in Gulf Breeze, Fla.
Pena has batted .278 in 97 at-bats this season and already has career-bests with nine extra-base hits and three home runs.
YANKEES: First baseman Mark Teixeira will have season-ending surgery on his right wrist.
The Yankees said that the All-Star had an MRI with dye contrast and that team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad determined the torn tendon sheath had not adequately healed.
Recovery time for the surgery is projected at six months.
ORIOLES: Dylan Bundy’s frustrating season ended before it started.
The pitching prospect will have elbow ligament-replacement surgery today. The procedure will end a season in which the right-hander never threw in a game.
“Hopefully, next year this time we’ll be putting a date on when he’s going to be pitching again in a game,” Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said.
Selected fourth overall in the 2011 draft, Bundy made it to the big leagues with Baltimore last season and was expected to contribute again this year. But he developed arm soreness during spring training.
INDIANS: Activated shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list and designated infielder John McDonald for assignment.
Cabrera strained his right quadriceps running out a grounder on June 3.
Indians manager Terry Francona said of Cabrera: “He came back a lot quicker than we anticipated. He’s running better now than he was the beginning of the year.”
Cabrera was in the starting lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the Orioles.
The 38-year-old McDonald was acquired from Pittsburgh on June 10 and played in eight games with Cleveland.
