HOOVER, Ala. — Tyler Moore and Ty Ross had run-scoring hits with two outs in the ninth to lead Louisiana State University to a 3-2 victory over Alabama on Friday in a Southeastern Conference Tournament elimination game.
The Tigers (50-9) face Arkansas in the semifinals today.
LSU got three consecutive two-out hits to take the lead in the final inning. Christian Ibarra singled and pinch-runner Jared Foster scored on Moore’s double. Reliever Jay Shaw replaced Mike Oczypok and gave up Ross’s RBI single.
LSU ‘s Chris Cotton then needed just 11 pitches to strike out all three batters in the bottom of the ninth for his 14th save. Nate Fury (2-1) pitched a scoreless eighth in relief of Ryan Eades for the win.
Alabama’s Oczypok (4-2) allowed 10 hits in 8⅔ innings.
Alabama had taken a 2-1 lead in the fifth when Mikey White produced an RBI triple and scored on Brett Booth’s single.
VANDERBILT 3, TEXAS A&M 0
Tyler Beede allowed two hits in 7⅓innings and Vanderbilt advanced to the semifinals with a victory over Texas A&M in an elimination game.
The Commodores (50-8), who lost their tournament opener to the Aggies 5-0, will face Mississippi State today.
Beede (14-0) struck out eight and walked four for Vandy, which outhit Texas A&M (32-27) by a total of 14-2. Brian Miller recorded the final five outs without allowing a hit for save No. 15.
Tony Kemp was 3 for 5 with a pair of stolen bases while five Vanderbilt players had two hits.
Xavier Turner’s double was the Commodores’ only extra base hit.
Chance Bolcerek had a hit and a walk for Texas A&M, while Troy Stein doubled.
Vanderbilt was coming off a victory over South Carolina on Thursday, which eliminated the Gamecocks from the tournament.
