Grand slam in bottom of the ninth lifts Pacers

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — Josh Miller hit a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give No. 3 USC Aiken an 11-7 win over No. 25 Georgia College on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.

The Pacers (42-11) will face Coker (35-14), which defeated Armstrong Atlantic State 11-6, at 7 p.m. Friday.

Ryan Metzler led off the USC Aiken ninth with a single through the left side. Tyler Moore, an Evans graduate, then reached on a bunt single before Sean Miller reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. One out later, Josh Miller homered to left field to win it. The homer was his sixth of the year and third of the game for the Pacers. Metzler and Ty Barkell also went deep for USC Aiken.

Josh Miller, Barkell and Moore had three hits each to lead the Pacers. Metzler and Bill Gerstenslager had two hits apiece.

Reliever Taylor Grover, a former Midland Valley standout, pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win and improve to 5-0.
