Fortunately Ben Turner was able to end the game before they reached that point.

Turner’s sacrifice fly in the 14th inning gave the GreenJackets a 4-3 win over the Lexington Legends on Wednesday and their fourth victory in a row.

Manager Mike Goff said he planned to stretch reliever Tyler Mizenko for two innings and, afterward, they would be out of pitchers. Mizenko only had to go one inning.

Augusta (9-4) had to put first baseman Stephen Branca on the mound in Charleston, S.C., on Sunday in the 13th inning.

“That’s tough on your bullpen,” Goff said. “You’re already limited one short when you have a six-man rotation; it already takes one guy out of your pen. So you’re surviving with seven guys in the pen instead of one extra and that takes a toll on you.”

In the 14th, Trevor Brown began the inning with a walk, reached second on a sacrifice bunt and third on a single. Turner hit a fly ball to center field, and Brown beat the throw home.

The win also clinched a series sweep of Lexington (4-10). The GreenJackets are 6-1 against the Legends this season.

Augusta starter Joan Gregorio had another solid outing. The lanky right-hander has allowed two earned runs with one walk and 23 strikeouts in his first 17 innings this season.

“Once again, he used his fastball and was outstanding,” Goff said. “They strung together three singles in a row, and we kicked the ball around in left field a bit to allow two runs to score. It was a great outing. When he establishes his fastball, he’s tough.”

Tyler Hollick hit a key RBI triple in the 11th that tied the game at 3 after the Legends scored on a wild pitch.

“I knew we had a pretty fast runner on second base – our fastest guy – so as long as I put the ball in play, hopefully good things would happen, and it worked out,” said Hollick, who had two RBI in the game.
