PADRES: Slugger Carlos Quentin dropped his appeal and began serving an eight-game suspension Sunday for rushing the mound, inciting a brawl in which Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke broke his left collarbone.

With the suspension starting with Sunday’s game against Colorado, Quentin will miss the Padres’ three-game series at Dodger Stadium beginning tonight.

INDIANS: Outfielder Michael Bourn is going to miss several games after receiving five stitches to close a cut on his right index finger.

The former Atlanta Brave was injured in the eighth inning when his hand was stepped on by pitcher Matt Thornton while making a headfirst slide into first base during Cleveland’s 3-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

YANKEES: Andy Pettitte, 40, is expected to make his next start Friday at Toronto after his turn in the rotation was pushed back.

The club had him in line to start Sunday but he experienced back spasms Thursday night.

Curtis Granderson is making the most of an off day in his rehabilitation from a broken right forearm.

The injured outfielder flew to New York and is planning to take students from a Brooklyn high school to a screening of the Jackie Robinson movie 42 today. The school’s athletic fields were damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

MARLINS: Reserve outfielder Austin Kearns was taken to a hospital with an irregular heartbeat before Sunday’s game, and the team said he would be kept overnight for observation.

After arriving at the ballpark he complained he didn’t feel well and went to a hospital for evaluation.

RED SOX: Closer Joel Hanrahan is expected to miss a few days with a sore right hamstring.
