The Augusta GreenJackets rode two solid efforts from their starting pitchers to a doubleheader sweep on Saturday at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

GreenJackets starters Chris Stratton and Joan Gregorio combined to allow two runs in 10 innings as Augusta won both games 4-1 against the Lexington Legends.

The sweep moved the GreenJackets to 3-0 on the season.

Stratton left seven Lexington runners on base, including four at third base, and held it to one run in five innings.

Stratton, a 2012 first-round pick ranked third in the Giants system by Baseball America, allowed six hits, walked one and struck out three.

“My fastball command wasn’t really there, and I had to flip a few curves and sliders to get through it,” he said. “The fastball had good life, but I had trouble locating it and left some up. I just have to work on keeping the ball down in the future.”

Lexington starter Miguel Almonte, ranked 10th in the Royals system by Baseball America, allowed three unearned runs on five hits in 42/3 innings.

The GreenJackets scored three in the third on an RBI single by Matt Duffy and two-run double by Mitch Delfino. Duffy had two hits along while driving in his second RBI of the season.

A fourth run scored on an error in the sixth.

Lexington’s run came in the second on an RBI double by Fred Ford. The Legends had two hits each from Ford and Cameron Gallagher.

In the second game, Gregorio allowed one run on three hits in five innings, walking one and striking out five.

“I think he had some first-start jitters, but once he settled in, his tempo was good and started trusting his stuff and the pitch that was called,” GreenJackets manager Mike Goff said. “I thought he threw well. He was solid.”

Augusta responded to Michael Antonio’s RBI single with four runs in the second on run-scoring hits by Ben Turner, Shayne Houck, Travious Relaford and Jesus Galindo.

Turner had two hits, including a double, in his season debut.
