Shorebirds drop GreenJackets

SALISBURY, Md. – The Augusta GreenJackets fell behind 5-0 after three innings aand lost 9-4 to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Saturday night.

The Shorebirds salvaged the series split with their win.

Delmarva got on the board in the second inning on Jason Esposito’s RBI single. In the third, the Shorebirds batted around to score four times and chase Augusta starter Paul Davis.

Davis (5-6) departed after the third, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out five. The three-inning start breaks a string of seven consecutive starts where Davis has thrown five or more innings.

The GreenJackets got a run back in the fourth on Brett Krill’s RBI single, but stranded two baserunners. Augusta stranded 10 in the game.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Shorebirds scored twice on a sacrifice fly and an Augusta fielding error to make it 7-1.

Krill grounded into a fielder’s choice in the sixth to bring home another GreenJackets run.

The Shorebirds put the game away in the eighth with two more runs.

Shawn Payne doubled home a pair of runs for Augusta in the ninth to make it 9-4, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.
