Heavy winds, lightning and the threat of thunderstorms have postponed the Augusta GreenJackets game tonight at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Monday starting at 4:05 p.m.

“It was more about the lightning strikes than it was the rain,” general manager Bob Flannery said. “We didn’t have much rain but every time there’s a lightning strike we have to wait. We want to make sure we’re safe.”

First pitch for tonight’s game was originally scheduled for 5:35 p.m. but was put on hold and the team’s tarp crew covered the field as strong winds ripped a sign off the center field wall.

The game was delayed an hour and a half before being called off.

The GreenJackets (6-4, 38-41) and Savannah Sand Gnats (3-7, 44-33) will play Games 3 and 4 of their five-game series Monday. Tickets to tonight’s game can be redeemed for partial credit to Monday’s game.
