A hot start to the second half of the season resulted in league-wide recognition for one Augusta GreenJackets pitcher.

Left-handed starter Adalberto Mejia was named the South Atlantic League pitcher of the week this afternoon. The team’s youngest player, who turned 19-years-old last week, threw six no-hit innings in Savannah Sunday for his second win in three outings.

Mejia struck out five, walked two and helped the GreenJackets claim a share of first place in the league’s Southern Division with their third win in four second-half games.

The Dominican Republic native is 5-4 in his first year of full-season ball with a 4.95 ERA.

Mejia became the second GreenJackets hurler to receive the league’s pitcher of the week honors. Fellow teenager Kyle Crick earned the award two weeks ago.
