USC Aiken shortstop drafted by Padres

Carmon selected in 10th round

USC Aiken star Stephen Carmon has been selected in the 10th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Players’ Draft.

The starting shortstop from Camden. S.C. was taken by the San Diego Padres this afternoon with the 315th overall pick.

Carmon hit .348 in his senior year and led the Peach Belt Conference with 45 stolen bases in 47 attempts. He broke a school record earlier this season with his 100th career stolen base.

The 22-year-old left-handed hitter was named to the College Baseball Lineup Division II all-star team last week after playing in all 55 games for the Pacers and striking out just six times in 227 at bats.
