The Gamecocks play Florida today. The Gators fell 2-1 to Vanderbilt on Thursday night. The loss knocked Auburn out of the double-elimination tournament.

Matthews had RBI singles in both the fourth and fifth innings, as South Carolina jumped ahead 5-0.

Auburn (31-28) scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings to cut the lead to 5-3. But Matt Price retired the Tigers in order in the ninth for his 10th save.

Michael Roth (6-1) got the victory, while Cory Luckie (2-2) took the loss.

Roth worked four scoreless innings to start the game and had faced the minimum entering the bottom half of the fifth.

“The key today was Michael was good early,” Gamecocks coach Ray Tanner said. “His command was good.”

The Gamecocks had a total of 13 hits, with LB Dantzler, Grayson Greiner and Chase Vergason accounting for two hits each.

South Carolina (40-16) clinched its 13th consecutive season with 40 or more wins.

Justin Bryant was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Tigers.

On Wednesday night, South Carolina fell 3-2 to Vanderbilt, sending the Gamecocks into the losers’ bracket.

Mike Yastrzemski brought home Vince Conde with a bunt in the eighth inning to give the Commodores the lead.
