SARASOTA, Fla. — The Atlanta Braves have started off their exhibition season horribly, and manager Fredi Gonzalez isn’t liking it.

On Thursday, even Mike Minor’s three scoreless innings didn’t help the mood of the second-year Atlanta manager, who is trying to live down last September’s collapse that cost the Braves a playoff spot.

Atlanta lost to the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 and have dropped five of six games.

In their losses, the Braves have scored seven runs. In the only win, Atlanta scored 10. The Braves are batting .216 this spring.

“You want to win ballgames because it’s a mindset you want to take to the season,” Gonzalez said.

“It’s still early when you’ve played seven, eight, nine, 10 games, but the No. 1
thing now is being healthy –
but you want to win ballgames. Any competitor who says different is probably lying to you.”

CARDINALS: Chris Carpenter said he has been dealing with neck stiffness for several days and missed Wednesday’s scheduled throw.

St. Louis’ right-hander said he is not sure whether he will throw today, his next scheduled side session.

The Cardinals have held back Carpenter this spring after he threw 273 1/3 innings last year, including the postseason.

YANKEES: David Robertson limped out of the clubhouse in Tampa, Fla., holding a pair of crutches, his right foot in an oversized black boot.

He sprained a foot when he stumbled on stairs while moving empty boxes at his home, and the team sounded worried there might be a significant injury to the All-Star reliever.

Instead of making his second spring training appearance, Robertson made two trips to a hospital for X-rays, an MRI and CT scan.

TWINS: Left-handed pitcher Glen Perkins has signed a three-year extension with Minnesota.

The team said Thursday that the deal is worth a guaranteed $10.3 million through the 2015 season.

Perkins emerged as a reliable late-inning reliever last season, going 4-4 with a 2.48 earned-run average. He struck out 65 and walked 21 in 61 2/3 innings.

MARINERS: Catcher Adam Moore broke his right wrist after blocking a ball in the dirt during a spring training game Tuesday against Cincinnati. He will be out an unspecified amount of time. It’s another stroke of bad luck for Moore, who missed most of last season after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee.

WHITE SOX 6, RANGERS 3

In Surprise, Ariz., Adam Dunn doubled, homered and drove in four runs as Chicago beat Texas, giving rookie manager Robin Ventura his first win.

REDS 8, BREWERS 6

In Phoenix, Chris Heisey had an RBI triple and Juan Francisco homered in a four-run fifth inning to lead Cincinnati to a victory over Milwaukee.

MARLINS 5, METS 4

In Port St. Lucie, Fla., Carlos Zambrano struggled with his control in his first start for Miami, allowing three runs while getting just four outs, and Miami beat New York.

TIGERS 8, RAYS (SS) 1

In Port Charlotte, Fla., Doug Fister pitched three scoreless innings and Delmon Young hit a three-run homer for Detroit.

Rays starter David Price left the game with minor neck spasms after the left-hander pitched two scoreless innings in his second spring start.

GIANTS 5, PADRES 2

In Peoria, Ariz., former Augusta GreenJacket Madison Bumgarner struck out five in three shutout innings in his first spring start
