Shanks, in his second season with the York Revolution, confirmed this afternoon that he will play for the Freedom Division in the Atlantic League All-Star Game, which is scheduled to be played in York, Penn. next Wednesday.
"I did make the all-star team," he said. "I'm having a decent season, and it'll be good for me this year because the game is here, and it'll be in front of the hometown fans."
The 32-year-old designated hitter ranks among the top 15 in the league with a .304 batting average. He has also tallied 39 RBI, 13 doubles and eight homers in 48 games played.
Fans of the independent league had the opportunity to select the all-star rosters through an online voting process that ended Wednesday. Results from the league office are expected to be announced Friday.
