KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Troy Glaus is used to making adjustments. When you've played for four teams over the past six seasons, it becomes like second nature.
The one thing he's never been able to adapt to is not seeing his name on the lineup. That was a tough reality to accept last year in St. Louis, when he was limited to 14 games after having surgery on his right shoulder in January.
"It was unbelievably frustrating," Glaus said of his final, injury-plagued year with the Cardinals. "I'm not a very good spectator. I wanted to be a part of it. Unfortunately, it took longer to come back than certainly I had hoped and everybody had hoped."
Glaus reached base safely for the seventh consecutive game Sunday and Brian McCann hit his first two home runs of the spring, but Atlanta starter Kenshin Kawakami was battered around for six runs as the Astros beat a Braves split-squad 8-5.
Glaus's shoulder is fully healed and feeling strong, and it's showing early this spring. He drew a walk in the fifth inning Sunday, finishing 0 for 2 but is hitting .563 and recently went on an 8 for 8 streak that ended earlier this week.
- In Dunedin, Fla., Joe Thurston homered and Martin Prado and Freddie Freeman drove in two runs apiece to lead the Braves to an 8-5 split-squad victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Prado's two-run single capped Atlanta's three-run second inning against Brandon Morrow. Thurston's first home run of the spring and Freeman's two-run single highlighted the Braves' four-run fourth that chased Jason Frasor after a third of an inning.
The Blue Jays took a brief 5-4 lead against Atlanta reliever James Parr in the third inning on Adam Lind's two-run triple, Lyle Overbay's RBI double, and Randy Ruiz's two-run homer to center.
ROYALS: Outfielder Rick Ankiel will miss at least a week of spring training with a right ankle injury.
Manager Trey Hillman said he would hold Ankiel out of spring training games for another six to seven days with the sore right ankle.
BLUE JAYS: Toronto's general manager Alex Anthopoulos wouldn't deny he's interested in Cuban defector Adeinis Hechavarria, but he declined to comment on a published report that the team might be close to signing the shortstop for $10 million.
The New York Post reported Sunday the Jays were closing in on the talented 21-year-old prospect.
"If there's a report that says we have an agreement, then we don't have any agreement," Anthopoulos said. Asked about the accuracy of the report in the New York Post , he replied: "I don't want to lie and I don't want to comment."
RED SOX: Daisuke Matsuzaka said he's feeling better but is waiting to make a decision on when he'll have his first throwing session of spring training.
A day after he was scratched from throwing batting practice because of a stiff neck, the Red Sox right-hander played catch for about 10 minutes from 60 feet.
ASTROS: Lance Berkman has returned to camp a day after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
The All-Star first baseman was at Osceola County Stadium early Sunday morning rehabbing the knee, doing simple squats, leg raises and knee bends after having loose cartilage debris removed from his left knee.
