KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Ricky Romero battled wind and control problems to pitch four shutout innings as the Toronto Blue Jays topped the Atlanta Braves, 3-0, on Saturday.
Romero, who is making a bid for an Opening Day assignment, walked four, but allowed only two hits before turning the ball over to Dana Eveland, who pitched three shutout innings with four strikeouts.
When Romero got Troy Glaus to ground out to begin the second inning, he became the first pitcher since March 4 to retire the Braves' first baseman, who had reached safely in each of his previous 10 plate appearances.
Glaus had also recorded a hit in each of his previous eight at-bats.
The Blue Jays scored all three of their runs off Atlanta starter Tim Hudson, who went four innings and allowed seven hits and two earned runs. Hudson struck out four and said he felt fine.
Hudson missed almost the entire 2009 season after Tommy John surgery.
Travis Snyder opened the Blue Jays second with a double and scored on Brad Emaus' single.
Melky Cabrera had two singles for the Braves.
On Friday night, Jair Jurrjens pitched two scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates before the game was called after three because of showers.
Jurrjens had been struggling with inflammation around his right shoulder and manager Bobby Cox decided to be cautious.
Jurrjens, who went 14-10 with a 2.60 ERA for the Braves last season, was supposed to start Wednesday against the New York Yankees, but the game was called because of rain. He made the bus ride to Tampa and said it was tough to get back into his rhythm, but he said his arm felt fine.
Former Braves pitcher Tom Glavine, who won 305 games, will arrive in camp on Tuesday. He was hired in February as a special assistant to Braves president John Schuerholz.
