Pacers fall on shot at buzzer

In Aiken, Ephraim Tshimanga hit a jumper at the buzzer to give North Georgia a 76-74 win over USC Aiken on Saturday.

Tshimanga finished with a team-high 17 points for the Nighthawks (5-7, 3-3 Peach Belt).

Doniel Dean led the Pacers (6-4, 3-3) with 23 points.

Ray Croon scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Ditalion Battle added 22 points as Kentucky State (4-12, 3-6 SIAC) beat Paine College 86-75.

Johnnie Robinson III led Paine (3-11, 2-5) with 17 points and Babe Murphy added 16. Fadil Robinson and Deshawndric Nelms had 11 rebounds each for the Lions.

USC Aiken still winless in PBC

In Aiken, Vanessa Agrusa had 19 points and 10 rebounds to propel North Georgia to a 66-49 victory over USC Aiken on Saturday.

Julianne Sutton added 12 points for the Nighthawks (10-2, 5-1 PBC).

Lonesha Lee led USC Aiken (3-9, 0-6) with 15 points.

Kentucky State withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback and edged Paine College 69-67 on Khaliah Herbert’s jumper with two seconds left.

Erica Jones had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Kentucky State (4-11, 4-4 SIAC).

Tania Ward had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Paine, which outscored Kentucky State 24-8 in the final period.


Coutinho set to join Barcelona

Philippe Coutinho is joining Barcelona after Liverpool agreed Saturday to sell the Brazilian in a deal that makes him one of the most expensive players in soccer history.

Barcelona did not reveal the cost of the deal for the 25-year-old playmaker but a person familiar with the details told The Associated Press that the transfer is worth 160 million euros ($192 million, 142 million pounds).


Federer, Bencic take mixed title

In Perth, Australia, Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic won the deciding Fast4 mixed doubles 4-3 (3), 4-2 Saturday over Germany to give Switzerland its third Hopman Cup title.

Federer rebounded from a close first-set loss to dominate the rest of the match in a 6-7 (4), 6-0, 6-2 win over Germany’s Alexander Zrevev.

Germany’s Angelique Kerber beat Bencic 6-4, 6-1 to send the championship to the mixed doubles decider. It was Kerber’s fourth straight singles win at the Hopman Cup this year.

In Shenzhen, China, top-ranked Simona Halep beat defending champion Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 in the final of the Shenzhen Open.

In Pune, India, Gilles Simon defeated second-seeded Kevin Anderson 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the final of the Maharashtra Open.

Jays get Solarte in Padres trade

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired infielder Yangervis Solarte from the San Diego Padres for prospects Edward Olivares and Jared Carkuff.

Solarte hit .255 with 18 homers and 64 RBI in 2017.
