South Carolina fires offensive coordinator Roper

South Carolina’s co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper has been relieved of his duties effective immediately, the school announced this morning.

Co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon will coordinate the Gamecocks’ offense and call the plays for the 2018 Outback Bowl game against Michigan, head football coach Will Muschamp said.

“After much deliberation, I have decided to go in a different direction with the offensive coordinator position on our football team,” Muschamp said in a statement. “We appreciate Kurt’s contributions to our program and to the University and wish him all the best.”

Under Roper, South Carolina’s offense sputtered for much of the season. Muschamp said he will not name a replacement for Coach Roper until after the Jan. 1 bowl game.
