USC Aiken is bringing back a familiar face to lead the program’s pitching staff.
Derek Beasley is returning to the Pacers as the new pitching coach, the school announced Wednesday. He starred on the mound for USC Aiken from 2011-14, twice earning all-conference honors and All-Southeast Region in 2013.
The left-hander and former Harlem standout was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 30th round in 2014 and pitched three seasons in the minor leagues.
USC Aiken head coach Kenny Thomas is also adding Brian Pruitt to the coaching staff.
Pruitt is a former St. Louis Cardinals scout and head coach at DeLand High School in Florida. He previously played and coached at Stetson University. He was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 34th round in 2008 out of Stetson and played parts of two seasons in professional baseball.
