Several locals on leaderboard in state golf tournaments

Several area golfers are sitting near the top of the leaderboard after the first day of Georgia state golf championships.

 

Greenbrier’s Austin Heider shot 3-under-par 69 and is tied for first with Douglas County’s Austin Fulton in the Class AAAAAA state tournament at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga. Today marks the final round.

Greenbrier sits 11 shots behind Johns Creek for first. Lakeside is also represented within the top 10 individually after Issac Hergott shot 74 and is tied for 10th.

Richmond Academy’s Jay Beach shot 3-under-par 68 and is tied for second in Class AAAA at Columbus Country Club in Columbus, Ga. The Musketeers are tied for eighth.

Harlem’s Matthew Murphey and Westside’s Parker Hoops are tied for third after carding 3-over-par 75 in Class AA at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro, Ga. Jefferson County’s Cal Thompson and A.R. Johnson’s Patrick Jean-Pierre shot 76, while Harlem’s Chase Johnson shot 77.

Harlem is tied for second, three strokes back of Model.

In Class AAAA girls at Maple Ridge Golf Club in Columbus, Ga., Burke County’s Dorminy Johnson is tied for 14th after shooting 13-over-par 85.

In Class AA girls at Applewood Golf Club in Keysville, Ga., Davidson’s Brette Bryant is tied for first with a first-round, 8-over-par 80. Davidson is in third, 10 strokes back of Vidalia.
