RiverDogs split with the Jackets

In Charleston, S.C., Eduardo de Oleo’s homer gave the Charleston RiverDogs a split with the Augusta GreenJackets on Thursday night.

De Oleo’s two-run blast in the sixth inning accounted for all the runs in Charleston’s 2-0 victory in the nightcap, which was a seven-inning game.

Augusta won the opener 6-2 in the completion of a suspended game from Wednesday night. That game was picked up in the bottom of the first inning with no score.

Leonardo Rojas had two RBI to lead the GreenJackets.

Augusta is now 13-14 while Charleston, which won the three-game series 2-1, is 13-13.

Golf

Richey leads at Savannah Lakes

In McCormick, S.C., former Florida Southern golfer Brian Richey shot a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 to take the first-round lead in the NGA Tour’s Savannah Lakes Village Classic.

Richey, of Lakeland, Fla., has a one-shot lead over J.C. Horne, Tyson Alexander and Daniel Obremski.

None of the golfers with area ties broke par. Kyle Bearden had 73, Matt Atkins shot 74, Chip Deason and Major Manning had 76s and Garland Smith shot 78.

• In Blythewood, S.C., former UNC Wilmington golfer Ryan Sullivan is alone in first place after two rounds of the eGolf Tour’s Columbia Open.

Sullivan, who shared the first-round lead, shot 4-under-par 67 on Thursday and is at 10-under 132. He is one ahead of Travis Ross (69-64).

Augusta’s Dykes Harbin (70-69–139) is seven shots off the lead.

Of the other area players, Mitch Krywulycz (75-70–145), Chase Parker (74-71–145) and Taylor Floyd (73-74–147) failed to make the cut, which fell at 142.

• Twenty teams are entered in the 40th Southern Cross high school tournament. The 36-hole event begins today at Aiken’s Palmetto Golf Club .

Westside girls basketball player Ellen Dukes has signed with Tennessee Temple.

Teammate Tyesha Ravenell previously signed with Morris College.

The duo helped the Lady Patriots reach the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

Jags, Bobcats to meet on Sunday

Georgia Regents’ men’s tennis team will take on Georgia College on Sunday in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at Bacon Park in Savannah, Ga.

The Jaguars (18-6) are the fifth seed and will meet the fourth-seeded Bobcats (14-7) at 2 p.m.

• The second-ranked USC Aiken golf team will begin play in the South/Southeast Regional on Monday at Savannah (Ga.) Quarters Country Club.

The top seven teams out of the 20-team field, along with the top two players not on one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 19-23.

Tennis

Berdych, Raonic in quarterfinals

In Oeiras, Portugal, top seeds Tomas Berdych and Milos Raonic strolled into the quarterfinals of the Portugal Open.

Berdych opened his title bid with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Somdev Devvarman, while the ninth-ranked Raonic beat Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-2 .
