Jags dominant in tournament

Georgia Regents placed six golfers in the top 10 and recorded a seven-stroke victory Saturday in the Forest Hills Collegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club.

The Jaguars posted a team score of 594 in the 36-hole event with rounds of 303-291. USC Upstate was second (298-303–601), followed by Gardner-Webb (314-294–608), Stetson (313-296–6090, Northern Illinois (317-311–628), Youngstown State (319-313–632) and North Carolina Central (335-328–663).

Meechai Padung shot 74-69–143 to lead the Jaguars and claim medalist honors. Viktor Edin (78-69–147) was second, Jake Marriott (77-72–149) and Maverick Antcliff (75-74–149) tied for fourth and Alex Wennstam (75-76–151) and Jack Heasman (73-78–151) tied for 10th.

Pacers top 100 in home victory

In Aiken, Ronald Zimmerman scored a game-high 36 points and eighth-ranked USC Aiken beat UNC Pembroke 107-91 Saturday night in its regular-season finale.

DeVontae Wright added 22 points and 13 assists for the Pacers (26-3, 18-1 Peach Belt), who trailed 22-3 in the early going. Paul Larsen had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Alvin Brown 15 points and 11 rebounds.

In the women’s game, Courtney Mealing scored a team-high 19 points to lead five players in double figures as USC Aiken (11-17, 9-10) beat UNC Pembroke 72-58.

Mariah Durian added 13 points for the Pacers, Amaura Brandt and Mackenzie Reese added 12 each and Kate Duff had 10.

Porsha Martin had a game-high 12 rebounds as USC Aiken outrebounded UNC Pembroke 43-33.

• In Atlanta, Jarrel Joye scored 15 points as Clark Atlanta beat Paine 67-61.

Paine’s Kedric Taylor had a game-high 17 points. Arnis Libazs and Jordan Warner added 11 each for the Lions (16-12, 11-7 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). Warner also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Paine women (11-15, 8-8) lost 95-78 to Clark Atlanta despite getting 28 points from Ashley Watts.

Federer captures sixth Dubai title

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Roger Federer won a record sixth Dubai Championships – and 78th career title – by beating Tomas Berdych 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the final on Saturday.

It is Federer’s first tournament victory since winning in Halle, his only title of 2013, last spring.

• In Aiken, the USC Aiken men defeated Pfeiffer 7-2 while Pfeiffer beat the USC Aiken women 5-4.

Chelsea records a win at Fulham

Andre Schuerrle’s hat trick sent Chelsea four points clear at the top of the English Premier League with a 3-1 victory at Fulham, capitalizing on Arsenal losing at Stoke on Saturday.

Having not won on seven previous visits to Stoke, Arsenal came unglued again as Jonathan Walters clinched a 1-0 victory from the penalty spot. Liverpool moved ahead of Arsenal on goal difference into second by winning 3-0 at Southampton in the late game.

Horse Racing

Gotham winner stays unbeaten

In New York, Samraat improved to 5 for 5 with a victory Saturday in the $500,000 Gotham Stakes for 3-year-olds at Aqueduct.

The time was 1:44.44 for  1 1/16 miles on the fast track.
