Jackets handed third loss in row
In Greensboro, N.C., the Greensboro Grasshoppers dealt the slumping Augusta GreenJackets their third consecutive loss, 2-1, on Wednesday.
GreenJackets starter Kendry Flores received the tough-luck loss, allowing two runs over eight innings, striking out seven.
Augusta third baseman Mitch Delfino went 2 for 4 with a home run, his second long ball in as many games and seventh of the season.
The Grasshoppers got four scoreless innings from their bullpen, backing starter Mason Hope, who allowed one run over five innings.
First baseman Viosergy Rosa homered for Greensboro, which was outhit six to three by Augusta.
Former area star wins match play
In Brasleton, Ga., former Columbua County resident Ashlan Ramsey defeated Ji Eun Baik, of Newnan, 7 and 5 on Wednesday, to win the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship at The Legends at Chateau Elan.
Ramsey, who now lives in Milledgeville, went 1 up after the first hole. After Baik birdied the fourth hole to square the match, Ramsey claimed the next three holes to go 3 up through seven. Making the turn with a 3 up advantage, Ramsey won holes 10, 11, 12 and 13 to clinch the match.
In Ramsey’s five matches, she clinched each win without playing holes 15, 16, 17 or 18. The recent high school graduate only played hole 14 in two of her five matches: in her round of 32 match and in her quarterfinal match.
Ramsey will join her older sister, Taylor, at Clemson University in the fall.
