Pacers post win on slam in ninth

In Mount Olive, N.C., Josh Miller hit a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give No. 3 USC Aiken an 11-7 win over No. 25 Georgia College on Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.

The Pacers (42-11) will face Coker (35-14), which defeated Armstrong Atlantic State 11-6, at 7 tonight.

Ryan Metzler led off the USC Aiken ninth with a single through the left side and Tyler Moore, an Evans graduate, reached on a bunt single. Sean Miller then reached on a fielder’s choice to load the bases. One out later, Josh Miller homered to left field to win it. The homer was his sixth of the year and third of the game for the Pacers. Metzler and Ty Barkell also went deep for USC Aiken.

Reliever Taylor Grover, a former Midland Valley standout, pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win and improve to 5-0.
