Walk-off homer lifts Greenville

In Greenville, S.C., David Chester hit a one-out homer in the bottom of the ninth inning, sending the Greenville Drive to a 6-5 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday night.

Chester was 3 for 4 with four RBI. He has homered in each of the first three games of the four-game series, which wraps up today.

Matt Duffy hit a pair of home runs for the GreenJackets, who have lost four of six.

Lady Jags duo fail to advance

In Auburn, Ala., Augusta State’s Casey Kennedy shot even-par 72 and tied for 23rd in the NCAA Division I Women’s East Regional at Auburn University Club.

Kennedy will not advance to the finals, as only the top two individuals on a nonadvancing team get to move on.

Kennedy and Natalie Wille were playing only as individuals. Wille shot 71 and tied for 45th.

• In Port St. Lucie, Fla., Paine College is in sixth place in the Division II portion of the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship.

Carlos Solis shot 70 to lead the Lions, who had a total of 317 in the second round.

Lincoln leads with 596.

The Texas Pan-American men lead by four strokes in Division I. The Bethune-Cookman women lead by 13.

The final round is today.

Track and Field

Laney girls take 4x100 relay title

In Albany, Ga., Laney won the title in the 4x100-meter relay at the Georgia High School Association Girls State Meet.

The team of Jasmie Youngblood, Siera Jacobs, Kiona Walker and Kashaunna Ballard finished with a time of 49.25 seconds.

Washington-Wilkes was third with 49.79.

Youngblood also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles.

Gamecocks ace shuts down Dogs

In Columbia, Jordan Montgomery carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and South Carolina cruised to a 7-1 win over Georgia.

Montgomery (4-1) gave up one run on two hits – both coming in the seventh – and struck out three.

Colby Holmes pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Gamecocks.

Blake Dieterich (2-3) gave up five runs in 4⅔ innings for the Bulldogs.

• In Clemson, S.C., Matthew Crownover tossed seven shutout innings to lead Clemson to a 7-0 win over Georgia Southern.

Former Greenbrier star Ben Morgan was 1 for 3 for the Eagles.

• In Atlanta, Benton Moss pitched eight shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out five, to lead North Carolina to a 3-1 win over Georgia Tech.

Daniel Palka hit a homer for the Yellow Jackets.

Nadal is headed to another final

In Madrid,Rafael Nadal reached his seventh consecutive final since returning from a knee injury, brushing aside wild-card entry Pablo Andujar 6-0, 6-4 at the Madrid Open on Saturday.

Nadal can win his fifth title since coming back from seven-month layoff healing his left knee. He will play Stanislas Wawrinka, who beat Tomas Berdych 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

The top-ranked Serena Williams will have a chance to win her 50th title after beating Sara Errani 7-5, 6-2. She will face No. 2 Maria Sharapova, who got her 500th win at all levels after defeating Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-3.
