Long ball carries Jackets to win
In Salisbury, Md., Shawn Payne and Devin Harris homered to lead the Augusta GreenJackets past the Delmarva Shorebirds 7-0 on Friday night.
Payne had a three-run shot in the third inning and Harris connected on a tworun homer in the sixth. It was the fifth homer of the season for both players.
Augusta starter Mejia Adalberto (8-7) went eight innings, giving up five hits. Steven Neff gave up two hits, but pitched a scoreless ninth.
Weather dooms Aiken Jamboree
The Aiken County Jamboree, which had been scheduled for Friday night, was cancelled because of weather concerns.
The annual event, which features 10 teams, was to be held at South Aiken. It will not be rescheduled.
South Aiken coach Jeremy West said it was cancelled because of recent bad weather and more rain and lightning were expected Friday night.
West expressed concern about a situation where lightning would pop up and the construction going on would make it difficult to get all the people safely inside.
“We erred on caution and safety,” West said.
Poole is 3 back in eGolf tourney
In Ninety Six, S.C., Aiken’s Stephen Poole is three shots back entering today’s final round of the eGolf Tour’s Grand Harbor Open.
Poole shot 1-under-par 71 on Friday at Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor and is at 12-under 204.
Ryan Nelson is the leader at 201 after his 71 on Friday.
Four players – Drew Weaver, Seamus Power, Chris Epperson and Gator Todd are one shot off the lead. Weaver hd 69, Epperson 70, Todd 71 and Power 72.
Former Augusta State golfer Henrik Norlander had 74 and is seven shots off the lead. Major Mannng, another former Jaguar, is eight back after 72.
• The Augusta State men’s team’s 2012-13 schedule includes tournaments at courses that played host to a U.S. Open and a Solheim Cup.
On Sept. 30-Oct. 2, Augusta State plays in the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club, the site of the 2003 U.S. Open.
In its season opener, Sept. 8-9, the Jaguars play in the Northern Intercollegiate at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., the site of the 2009 Solheim Cup.

USC Aiken adds exhibition game
USC Aiken has added an exhibition game to its schedule. The Pacers will take on College of Charleston at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.
Dixie Showdown is set for tonight
Dublin 441 Speedway in Rentz, Ga., will hold the second annual Dixie Showdown featuring American Dirt Late Model “Super 7” tonight, with $2,000 going to the winner.
In addition to top drivers coming in for the race, regulars such as PS, Bomber and RW.
Gates open at 4 p.m.
State event will end at Newman
The CSRA Tennis Association is playing host to the USTA Georgia Adult and Senior Mixed Doubles League State Championship, which will end with the finals Monday at Newman Tennis Center.
