Manning is top area finisher in eGolf

Former Augusta State golfer Major Manning was the top area finisher in the eGolf Tour’s Southern Open, which concluded Saturday at the Club at Irish Creek in Kaanapolis, N.C.

Manning, who lives in Daytona Beach, Fla., closed with 3-under-par 68 to tie for 20th place, seven shots behind the winner, Drew Weaver.

Weaver, a former Virginia Tech golfer, shot 70 and beat Michael Sims (67 on Saturday) in a sudden-death playoff. They finished at 17-under 267.

Weaver won $24,000 and Sims, who had a second-round 59, won $14,111.

Of the other area golfers to make the cut, David Robinson, of Sandersville, Ga., had 68 and tied for 27th place at 275; Aiken’s Stephen Poole had 72 and tied for 38th place at 277 and former Augusta State golfer Henrik Norlander had 72 and tied for 57th place at 282.
