Tourists topple Jackets again
In Asheville, N.C., Samuel Mende scored the game-winning run on David Kandilas’ squeeze bunt in the 10th inning, and the Asheville Tourists walked away with a 3-2 win over the Augusta GreenJackets on Sunday.
Asheville took four of five in the series.
Edwin Escobar pitched seven strong innings for Augusta, but didn’t factor in the decision. He allowed two runs on six hits and had six strikeouts.
Jesus Flores had a home run for the GreenJackets, who have fallen back to .500 in the second half of the season.
Siler says he will play for Wizards
Former Augusta State All-American Garret Siler says he will play for the Washington Wizards in the NBA Summer League, according to an announcement on his Facebook page on Sunday.
The center has been a free agent since being waived by the Phoenix Suns earlier this year.
Siler played one season with the Suns (2010-11), averaging just 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 21 games.
Siler also announced that his Big G Basketball Camp, scheduled for July 16-20, has been canceled because he’ll be working out with the Wizards.
• Orlando has agreed to a sign-and-trade deal, sending restricted free agent forward Ryan Anderson to New Orleans for forward Gustavo Ayon.
The 6-foot-10 Anderson is entering his fifth NBA season out of California. He started 61 games for Orlando last season, averaging 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Ayon, also 6-10, spent his rookie NBA season in New Orleans last year after playing in Spain’s top pro league.
• A person with direct knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press the Milwaukee Bucks are close to a deal with free-agent forward Ersan Ilyasova.

Evans grad beats Ortiz at UFC 148
In Las Vegas, Evans High School graduate Forrest Griffin edged Tito Ortiz in a close unanimous decision at UFC 148 on Saturday night in a bout matching former light heavyweight champions at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Griffin was able to land a number of kicks to the legs and body and controlled most of the fight that ended with three judges giving him a 29-28 edge. Ortiz rocked Griffin in the second and third rounds, flooring him with right hands, but Griffin rallied to sustain the attack.
In the main event, middleweight champion Anderson Silva stopped Chael Sonnen at 1:55 of the second round.
Toliver, Parker help lead Sparks
In Los Angeles, Kristi Toliver scored 19 points and Candace Parker had 14 points and 12 rebounds and the Los Angeles Sparks defeated the Atlanta Dream 79-63 on Sunday.
Sancho Lyttle led the Dream with 17 points.
Deschamps hired to coach France
Didier Deschamps is the new coach of France’s troubled national soccer team.
The French Football Federation announced the appointment on its Web site after Laurent Blanc turned down an offer in June.
Deschamps quit as Marseille coach a week ago despite leading the French club to a league title and a record three consecutive League Cups.
