San Antonio ups lead to 4 shots
Texas-San Antonio extended its lead in the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate after shooting 2-under-par 286 at Forest Hills Golf Club on Saturday.
The Roadrunners, who led by one after the first round, are now up by four over host Augusta State.
Texas-San Antonio counted 70, 71, 72 and 73 at the par-72 course.
Augusta state shot 289 behind sophomore Casey Kennedy, who had 69. Kennedy is the individual leader at 2-under 142, one shot ahead of Purdue’s Paula Reto (68 on Saturday).
The other Jaguar counters on Saturday were Marit Bjerke (72), Christine Duschek-Hansen (73) and Natalie Wille (75).
Bjerke is tied for ninth individually while Duschek-Hansen and Wille are tied for 14th.
• In Southern Pines, N.C., Kevin Foley birdied the final two holes to win the eGolf Tour’s Pine Needles Classic by a shot.
The former Penn State golfer closed with 4-under-par 67 and finished at 16-under 268. He won $29,000.
Bruce McDonald also had 67 to finish second, but his four birdies came on the front nine.
Former Georgia Tech golfer Chesson Hadley had 70 and tied for third with Adam Long (67), two shots behind Foley.
Former Augusta State golfer Mitch Krywulycz tied for seventh after 67 and won $5,203.67. Henrik Norlander, another former Jaguar, shot 71 and tied for 20th with David Robinson, of Sandersville, Ga., who had 67.
• Two more dates have been announced for the 2012 Regions Bank Amateur Series.
The Goshen Golf Classic will be held June 23-24 and the Orville White Cup at Midland Valley Country Club on Aug. 4-5.
Tournaments that have not selected their dates are the Augusta City Amateur at Forest Hills Golf Club and the City of Augusta Match Play Championship at The Patch.
USC Aiken earns sweep at home
In Aiken, starter Ryan Milewski went the distance as No. 14 USC Aiken beat Georgia Southwestern 6-0 in the first game of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader.
The Pacers won the nightcap 6-3 as Tyler Bourdo had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
Ty Barkell and Adam Anderson also had two hits for the Pacers (19-6, 10-5 PBC).
The victories gave the Pacers a sweep of the three-game series. USC Aiken won the opener on Friday 10-2.
• In Pembroke, N.C., Augusta State lost a twinbill to UNC Pembroke, 3-0 and 9-7.
UNC Pembroke starter Brad Isom went the distance, striking out 11 and allowing seven hits in Game 1.
In the second game, Augusta State got homers from Curtis Parker and Jeff Rice.
The Jaguars dropped to 8-20, 1-14 in the conference.
Jags gets split with Bobcats
Kristen Jones had two hits and two RBI to lead Augusta State past Georgia College & State, 3-0, in the first game of a doubleheader.
Augusta State (23-7, 6-2 Peach Belt Conference) lost the second game 6-0 as Georgia College & State’s Haley Burnett pitched a three-hitter.
USC Aiken stops Belmont Abbey
USC Aiken swept Belmont Abbey at the USC Aiken Tennis Complex.
The men (5-2) won 9-0 and the women (5-4) won 8-1.
