Lady Jaguars are one shot behind
All four Texas-San Antonio counters stayed around par as the Roadrunners took the first-round lead in the 54-hole Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club on Friday.
The leaders shot 10-over-par 298 by counting 73 by Shannon Jungman and 75s by Fabiola Arriaga, Taylor Newlin and Summer Batiste.
Augusta State and Purdue are tied for second place, one shot off the lead.
The Lady Jaguars counted 73 by Casey Kennedy, 74 by Natalie Wille and 76s by Marit Bjerke and Christine Duschek-Hansen.
Purdue’s Kishi Sinha leads the individual race after 70.
The tournament continues today and concludes Sunday.
• In Southern Pines, N.C., Chesson Hadley birdied his first four holes and maintained his lead in the eGolf Tour’s Pine Needles Classic on Friday.
Hadley, a former Georgia Tech golfer, is at 13-under 201, one shot ahead of Kevin Foley, who had 69.
Two former Augusta State golfers had strong rounds Friday.
Mitch Krywulycz shot 66 and is tied for 11th place at 206. And Henrik Norlander shot 69 and is tied for 13th at 207.
David Robinson, of Sandersville, Ga., shot 70 and is tied for 34th place at 211.

RiverHawks win, but don’t clinch
In Southaven, Miss., Branden Kosolofsky’s goal with 18:11 left lifted the Augusta RiverHawks to a 3-2 victory over the Mississippi RiverKings.
Augusta could have clinched the Southern Professional Hockey League regular season title if Knoxville and Columbus lost their games, but both teams won.

Strong pitching keys Pacers’ win
In Aiken, Wyatt Brown and Kelly Holt combining to strike out 16 batters as 14th-ranked USC Aiken (17-6, 8-5 PBC) beat Georgia Southwestern 10-2.
• In Pembroke, N.C., Eitan Maoz and Max Gagnon hit homers as UNC Pembroke beat Augusta State 10-6.
Curtis Parker and Jeff Rice had homers for Augusta State (8-18, 1-12 Peach Belt Conference).
Jaguars’ record run ends at 16
Augusta State extended its school record for consecutive victories to 16 games with a 4-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader with Columbus State, but it ended when the Cougars won the nightcap 2-1.
Council makes all-district team
USC Aiken senior guard Sterling Council has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II Southeast Region All-District First-Team.
The All-District Teams, which are comprised of eight districts, are selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
Council is now eligible for the NABC Coaches’ Division II All-America Teams.
