Pacers’ streak is over at seven
In Richmond, Va., USC Aiken’s seven-game winning streak came to an end Friday, thanks to Virginia Union.
The Panthers, behind Wesley Simmons, roared past the Pacers in the second half, winning 75-69.
Simmons lead all scorers with 19 points.
USC Aiken had beaten Virginia Union 81-62 on Dec. 17 – the last game for the Pacers before ending a 12-day break on Friday.
The Pacers (8-2) led 36-34 at halftime Friday, but were outscored 41-33 in the second half.
Re’Mon Nelson led USC Aiken with 15 points.
Sterling Council added 14 and Jeremiah Pojah chipped in with 12.
‘Golfweek’ Tour begins in March
The Golfweek Amateur Tour will play host to 14 Augusta-area events in 2012, starting March 10 at Pointe South Golf Club and ending Sept. 22 at Goshen Plantation.
The Augusta schedule includes three major tournaments and one day visits to such courses as Applewood Golf Club, Gordon Lakes Golf Course and Monticello at Savannah Lakes.
The tour is for amateurs of all ages and abilities. Members are placed in one of five flights based on handicaps. The flights are championship (0-3.9 handicap), A Flight (4-8.9), B Flight (9-13.9), C Flight (14-18.9) and D Flight (19 -over).
Tournament format is stroke play, with USGA rules in effect. A software program and web page tracks each player’s Tour handicap to ensure participants are placed in their proper flight. Player Tour handicaps will be monitored throughout the season to field the most competitive flights possible.
Golfers may join the Tour at any time for a $85 seasonal membership fee.
Non-member entry fees for single-day events are between $65 and $85.

Mayweather Jr. case is settled
In Las Vegas, attorneys for boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. completed the second part of a plea deal Friday that let the championship fighter pay a $1,000 fine and avoid trial and jail time for a November 2010 scuffle with a homeowner association security guard in an argument about parking tickets.
Mayweather is scheduled to start a 90-day jail sentence Jan. 6 in an unrelated case.
He pleaded guilty Dec. 21 to misdemeanor battery domestic violence and no contest to harassment for a hair-pulling, punching and arm-twisting argument with his ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris in September 2010.
Djokovic breezes to another win
In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, top-ranked Novak Djokovic swept aside Roger Federer 6-2, 6-1 and will play David Ferrer in the final of the World Tennis Championship exhibition.
The fifth-ranked Ferrer defeated second-ranked Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
Bowman to get Order of Canada
Scotty Bowman is among 66 notables to receive the Order of Canada. The honor recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Bowman won a record nine Stanley Cups behind the benches of Montreal, Pittsburgh and Detroit.
