Augustan gets Sage invitation
Augusta’s Greyson Sigg became the second person in the 2012 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley field to receive his invitation by hand delivery Wednesday afternoon.
North Augusta’s Matt NeSmith was the first player to receive a hand-delivered invitation.
Sigg was supposed to receive his invitation last week, but he was out of town visiting colleges.
Sigg earned a spot into the Junior Invitational by winning the Georgia Junior Championship in June at Augusta Country Club. Inside a green box, he received a personalized invitation for the 54-hole event, which will run April 20-22.
“It’s just an honor to know I’m playing in the No. 1-ranked junior tournament in the world,” said Sigg, a 16-year-old Richmond Academy junior.
“It’s like the Masters of junior golf tournaments. All the pros work to play in the Masters. All the juniors work to play in the Junior Invitational.”
Sigg is ranked No. 70 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings, the third highest-ranked Georgian.
