Baylor's Robert Griffin emerges as Heisman Trophy candidate

  • Follow Sports

Robert Griffin. The Baylor quarterback vaulted into the Heisman Trophy watch list with his performance in the Bears’ 50-48 win over Texas Christian. Griffin completed 21 of 27 passes for 359 yards and five touchdowns. He also added 33 rushing yards and caught a 15-yard pass.

Mark Richt. Obvious pick here. He admitted during the summer how important this opening two-game stretch would be for Georgia, and now his team is 0-1. The Bulldogs, and all their so-called better recruits through the years, got bullied by a team from Idaho. Richt defenders will proclaim that Boise State entered ranked fifth in the nation. Still, Georgia players look unprepared and out of shape. Bad sign for a coach on the hot seat.

Nike. The sad part is no one got a free bowl of soup with those hideous Pro Combat jerseys.

1. South Carolina (1-0). Marcus Lattimore picked up where he left off with 112 yards and three touchdowns against East Carolina.

2. Clemson (1-0). Tiger defense bent against Troy, but it came up big in the fourth quarter.

3. Georgia Tech (1-0). Mixed bag for the Yellow Jackets, who totaled 662 yards against Western Carolina but also fumbled six times.

4. Georgia (0-1). Three penalties on the opening drive should’ve been an omen.

Clemson: One more appetizer before tough three-game stretch.

Georgia: If nothing else, the uniforms should look better.

Georgia Tech: Yellow Jackets gradually improving their strength of schedule as they prepare to improve to 2-0.

South Carolina: Seeking first two-game winning streak against Georgia since 2000-01.

If Robert Griffin is going to

If Robert Griffin is going to win thie Heisman, it had better be this year.
Once the Aggies leave for the SEC the Big 12 will go the way of the dodo bird. I don't think any BCS conference would take Baylor, and the future of its athletics program would be in doubt. That's why Baylor is fighting the Aggies leaving--looking out for Baylor. Any future Bears QB might as well compete for the Walter Payton award.
