Streak ends at 11 for GreenJackets

In Hagerstown, Md., Augusta's longest winning streak since 2007 ended at 11 games when the GreenJackets suffered a double-header sweep to the Hagerstown Suns.

Josh Mazzola homered in Game 1, but the Suns posted four earned runs on starter Gaspar Santiago (3-4) for a 4-2 win.

In Game 2, the GreenJackets had just two hits in a 3-0 loss.

Golf

Lowe drops back in Aiken's eGolf event

In Aiken, Augusta native Cortland Lowe is three shots off the pace after the second round of the eGolf Tour's Scratch Golf Championship at the Jones Course in Woodside Plantation,

Lowe, the first-round leader, followed his opening 63 with 74 is tied for sixth place, three shots behind Paul Brown , of Hartsville, S.C.

Brown has shot 68-66 and is at 10-under 134.

He's one shot ahead of Doug Garwood (68 on Thursday) and Clark Klaasen (67).

The other local players in the field are Kevin Grady (73-68_141), Carter Newman (72-70--142), Dane Burkhart (72-70--142), David Robinson (70-73--143), Stephen Poole (68-75--143), Scott Parel ( 71-72--143) and Alex Hamilton (72-71--143).

Area players missing the cut, which fell at 143, were Chris Holroyd (77-73--150), Brett Munson (77-73--150) and Jay Haas Jr. (77-74--151).

- In Bremerton, Wash., Chelso Barrett defeated defending champion Jim Liu 1-up in the second round of match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships on Thursday.

Jordan Spieth of Dallas, the 2009 winner, advanced with a 2-and-1 victory over Wesley Gosselin of Knoxville, Tenn.

- In Olympia Fields, Ill., Thailand's Ariya Jutanugarn , the top-ranked player in the field, was forced to the 18th hole before beating Canada's Jisoo Keel to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Girls Junior Championship.

Keel missed a six-foot birdie putt on No. 18.

In another Round of 16 match, former Evans golfer Ashlan Ramsey, now of Milledgeville, Ga., lost 1-up to Karen Chung , the runner-up in this tournament in 2008.

- Non-military participants in this weekend's Ping Regions Cup Invitational golf tournament at Gordon Lakes Golf Course must enter Fort Gordon through Gate 1.

To enter the post, a valid driver's license, car registration card and insurance card is required..

Practice rounds continue today for the eighth Regions Bank Amateur Series tournament of the year, which runs Saturday and Sunday.

Basketball

USC Aiken releases 2011-12 schedule

The Pacers men's season will once again begin with a home game against Vorhees.

USC Aiken's season-opener is scheduled for Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

USC Aiken will play host to Augusta State Jan. 16 and travel to Christenberry Fieldhouse Feb. 15.

Silver Bluff grad to coach at Reinhardt

Former Silver Bluff football player Rusty Wright has been hired as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Reinhardt University in Waleska, Ga.

Racing

NASCAR driver will compete in Dublin

David Ragan and his No. 6 UPS Ford will race at 411 Speedway in Dublin, Ga., on Saturday night in a special benefit race for The Shriners Hospital for Children and NephCure Foundation.

Gates open at 4 p.m. and the race will start at 7.

Tennis

Rain delays play in third round matches

In Norcross, Ga., No. 8 seed Somdev Devvarman of India and Ryan Harrison overcame a rain delay of 2 hours, 30 minutes to win their third-round matches in the Atlanta Tennis Championships.
