Stimulant found in Taurasi's 'A' test

The lawyer for WNBA standout Diana Taurasi tells The Associated Press that the former UConn star has tested positive for a mild stimulant while playing in a pro basketball league overseas.

Howard Jacobs said Thursday night that Taurasi's 'A' sample came back positive from a Turkish lab and she was provisionally suspended by the Turkish league she's playing in. Taurasi has requested that her 'B' sample be tested.

Jacobs said the substance "was not a steroid or recreational drug," however he refused to say identify it.

The Phoenix Mercury star served one day in jail and was suspended by the WNBA for two games in 2009 after pleading guilty to a DUI charge.

She has already missed the last three games with Fenerbahce, her team in Turkey.

- In Seattle, Alex Montgomery came back to her home state and scored a game-high 20 points, leading Georgia Tech past Washington in a nonconference game 60-27.

The 6-foot-1 senior guard went to high school in Tacoma, about 35 miles south of the Washington campus.

The Yellow Jackets (9-4) have won six games in a row.

Cottonmouths rout RiverHawks by four

In Columbus, Ga., the Columbus Cottonmouths used a four-goal second period to pull away for a 6-2 victory over the Augusta RiverHawks on Thursday night.

After taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after a goal by Kyle Lundale , the Cottonmouths came out and got goals from Brett Hammond , Daryl Moore , Matt Kinnunen and Sam Bowles to pull away.

Augusta's Egor Mironov and Kevin Fukala scored in the third period. Brent Clarke added the final goal for Columbus.

Gillette won't renew contract with Tiger

The Procter & Gamble Co. says it will not renew its endorsement deal with Tiger Woods after the end of the year.

The company used Woods and dozens of other athletes as part of its three-year "Gillette Champions" marketing program. Gillette said Thursday that it is phasing out that program and in turn, not renewing the contract with Woods and several other athletes.

Rockies get reliever for minor leaguers

The Colorado Rockies bolstered their bullpen by acquiring right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom from the Houston Astros.

In exchange, the Rockies sent minor league pitchers Wes Musick and Jonnathan Aristil to Houston in a deal that was announced Thursday.

Lindstrom has made at least 50 appearances in all four of his seasons in the majors. He had a team-high 23 saves for the Astros in 2010, finishing 2-5 with a 4.39 ERA.

- A person familiar with the negotiations says left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes agreed to a contract with the AL champion Texas Rangers.

The 41-year-old Rhodes was 4-4 with a 2.29 ERA in 69 relief appearances for the Cincinnati Reds last season, when he became a first-time All-Star.

- The Washington Nationals agreed with reliever Sean Burnett on a $3.95 million, two-year contract with a mutual option for 2013, avoiding salary arbitration.

Burnett went 1-7 with three saves and a 2.l4 ERA in 73 appearances in 2010.

- The Arizona Diamondbacks have sold utility player Rusty Ryal to the Yomiuri Giants of the Japanese League.

Cazares retains his super flyweight belt

In Osaka, Japan, Mexico's Hugo Cazares defeated Japan's Hiroyuki Hisataka by unanimous decision to retain his WBA super flyweight title.

The 32-year-old Cazares dominated the 12-round bout in the third defense of his title.

Cazares improved to 34-6-2 with 24 knockouts.
