Pacers knocked off by conference foe
USC Aiken dropped a five-set match against Peach Belt Conference foe Montevallo in the USC Aiken Volleyball Invitational on Friday, falling 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 13-25, 15-11).
Sophomore Shannon Byers tallied 14 kills and 11 digs for USC Aiken. Megan Disney and Emily Maassen added 10 kills apiece.

The Lady Jaguars are beginning their 10th season of competition and their third under head coach Kevin McPherson .

Mayweather jailed on charge of theft
Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was jailed briefly Friday on a felony charge in Las Vegas after his ex-girlfriend alleged he beat her and stole her cell phone during an argument in front of their three children.
Mayweather, 33, said nothing as he was released from the Clark County jail on $3,000 bail after being booked on a grand larceny charge. He could face a maximum five years in state prison on the charge. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance Nov. 9.
Mayweather's lawyer, Richard Wright , denied his client was guilty.
In a request for a Clark Court Family Court protection order, Josie Harris said Mayweather threatened to kill her in a confrontation about 5 a.m. Thursday at a home she says is listed in his name in southwest Las Vegas. She said he was angry about her a relationship with another man.
Edwards will be on pole at Richmond
Carl Edwards will start from the pole position in the final race of NASCAR's "regular season" tonight at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.
Edwards turned a fast lap at 127.762 mph in qualifying. He edged Juan Pablo Montoya , whose lap came at 127.455 mph.
The pole is the sixth of Edwards' career and his second this season.
- Kevin Harvick passed Brad Keselowski for the lead with just over 50 laps to go Friday night and won the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond, picking up his third victory of the season.
Rider receives ban for second violation
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has issued a lifetime ban to cyclist Duane Dickey for a second violation for his use and possession of the banned endurance-boosting hormone EPO and his refusal to give a sample for testing.
- In Burgos, Spain, Mark Cavendish , of Britain, won a massive sprint finish for his second consecutive Spanish Vuelta stage victory. Spain's Igor Anton kept the overall lead.
Cavendish won the 121-mile 13th leg in 4 hours, 50 minutes, 18 seconds. Thor Hushovd , of Norway, and Daniele Bennati , of Italy, crossed next in the same time.
Two local athletes make Paralympics
Champions Made From Adversity announced that Scott Winkler and Jeanette Thompson have been selected to the U.S. Paralympic team, which will compete in the World Track and Field Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand, in January.
Moore, Lawson lift U.S. in exhibition
In Hartford, Conn., Maya Moore scored 16 points and Kara Lawson added 15 to help the U.S. women's national basketball team beat Australia 89-56 in an exhibition game Friday night.
