Lady Jags freshman wins after playoff

In Hilton Head Island, S.C., Augusta State freshman Natalie Wille won a three-hole playoff to capture the Low Country Intercollegiate at Moss Creek Golf Club.

It was Wille's first career victory. She shot 3-over-par 75 in the final round and sank an 18-foot par putt on the first playoff hole against Richmond's Jillian Fraccola to extend the playoff.

Augusta State carded 309 to finish third as a team. Western Carolina won by two strokes over James Madison.

- In Murrells Inlet, S.C., the Augusta State men's golf team shot 5-under-par 283 in the second round and is in third place at the General Hackler Championship.

The team shot 310 in the first round for an overall 17-over 593.

Augusta State's Henrik Norlander shot even-par 144 (77 and 67) and is tied for fourth. Taylor Floyd is 1-over (73 and 72) and is tied for eighth.

East Tennessee State's Seamus Power is in the lead at 4-under 140 (69 and 71), and his team leads as well at 11-over 587.

- In Aiken, USC Aiken completed a three-game sweep of Peach Belt Conference foe Lander with a 12-10 victory on Sunday.

Travis Howard was 4 for 4 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored to lead the Pacers. Nick Aranas added three hits and five RBI.

Tyler Stephan gave up two unearned runs in 3Q innings and struck out five to earn the win for the Pacers.

Joe Tebaldi and Jordan Owens each had two hits for Lander.

USC Aiken (16-7, 8-1) faces Chowan at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

- In Columbus, Ga., Augusta State's softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Columbus State.

In the first game, Kayla Hicks had a home run and two RBI and the Lady Jags won 3-0.

Sara DeMuth struck out 14 batters in seven innings for the win, her ninth of the season.

In the second game, Leann Barber was 3 for 4 with two RBI and Augusta State won 9-4.

Augusta State (20-6, 6-0) next plays at West Georgia at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Augusta's Robinson wins two kart races

In Kershaw, S.C., Skylar Robinson, of Augusta, won two races at the World Karting Association's Gold Cup National Championship event at Carolina Motorsports Park.

On Saturday, Robinson, 13, placed first in the Briggs Junior Heavy Class and third in the Briggs Junior Light Class.

On Sunday, he won the Briggs Restricted Junior Class and finished third in the Briggs Junior Medium Class.

The victories are his first in Gold Cup National Championship events. Robinson is the son of former 24 Hours of Daytona winner Chip Robinson.

Jets sign Tomlinson to 2-year contract

The New York Jets signed running back LaDainian Tomlinson to a two-year contract, adding an aging star to an offense that ranked No. 1 in rushing last season.

- The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos for fullback Peyton Hillis and a 2011 draft pick. The teams said the deal is pending physicals.

Quinn's departure comes one day after the Browns agreed to terms with free agent Jake Delhomme on a two-year contract. Quinn went 3-9 in 12 starts for Cleveland.

Beckham is injured, will miss World Cup

David Beckham will miss the World Cup after tearing his left Achilles' tendon while playing for AC Milan, a person familiar with the injury says.

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made, said Beckham was certain to miss playing for England at this year's tournament in South Africa.

The former England captain injured himself in the closing minutes of AC Milan's 1-0 win over Chievo Verona on Sunday.
