A Columbia County Free Throw contest, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, was held Jan. 16, and Braz Staples was the winner in the 11-year-old boys competition, making a perfect 15 out of 15, plus five bonus free throws in a row. He will be in the district competition Feb. 13.\nSpecial Photo

Rebecca von Schweinitz, shown with her horse Jazi, has been named to the 2009 Top 10 U.S. Eventing Association National Leaderboard for the Young Adult Training Level rider. Rebecca is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Helmut von Schweinitz, of Irmo, S.C., and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.G. von Schweinitz, of Appling.
