South Aiken QB Baldwin picks up offer

It turns out Bo Baldwin didn’t need more game film or playing time to get an offer after all.

South Aiken’s 6-foot-5, 230-plus pound quarterback has received a grayshirt offer from South Carolina, Thoroughbreds coach Jeremy West said Monday. If Baldwin accepts such an offer – West said Baldwin hasn’t committed – he would attend classes in the fall 2014 semester but he wouldn’t be allowed to compete on the team until the following semester.

Baldwin has shown flashes of his arm strength in each of the past two seasons for Thoroughbreds. But injuries have been a problem, with the lack of film and game action leaving the quarterback without an offer. As a sophomore, Baldwin broke his collarbone. In 2012, he broke his throwing hand.

But he impressed South Carolina coaches at camps, including one just this past Friday, and is healthy for what his coach is hoping will be a big season.

“I’m just happy for him,” West said. “For one to step up and offer is big for him. He can just go out and play football now and enjoy his senior year.”
