Oceanographer Dr. Jim Bowers of the NOAA Underwater Research Program will share slides and movies from his exploration of Lake Superior. Dr. Bowers used a submersible to study the plankton and fish communities at mid-water and abyssal depths in Lake Superior. Visitors are always welcome. APRIL 28: A “Benderdinker Paddling & Pickin” musical kayak/canoe event called will be held at Riverside Park on Hardy McManus Road, Evans, with a scenic, simple, three -hour paddle on Betty’s Branch and the Savannah River. Eyrn Eubanks & the Family Fold will head up an all-day jam session of local bluegrass bands, on-and-off the water. The event will be a celebration of “all things local.” Restaurants selling locally-grownfoods will include Chef Edward Mendoza’s coffee-rubbed pig roast and the Rooster’s Beak food truck vending veggie tacos and homemade ice cream,and Mellow Mushroom’s local pizza slices. Registration for kayaking is $25/boat. Boat rentals are available too. Entrance to the local fest is free. Proceeds benefit four local nonprofits: Augusta Locally Grown, Savannah Riverkeeper, Camp Sweet Life, and Columbia County Cares.
