I'll Have Another has solid training run

I'll Have Another, led by exercise rider Jonny Garcia, goes on a training run at Belmont Park on Thursday.

NEW YORK — Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another turned in another strong gallop as he prepares for the Belmont Stakes on Saturday.

On a sunny Thursday morning, the colt again went once around the oval, duplicating the 1½ miles of the race.

“He had a really good day of training,” trainer Doug O’Neill said. “He showed good energy and he cooled out really well. I’m very happy with where we are two days out.”

I’ll Have Another has already concluded his serious training. The mission now is to keep him keen and ready with gallops rather than timed workouts that emphasize speed.

RIDERS TOSSED: Jockeys Rosie Napravnik and Irad Ortiz Jr. were thrown from their mounts in the seventh race at Belmont Park.

Napravnik fell off Indigene Charm shortly after leaving the starting gate in the $31,000 race on the inner turf course. She got up and walked off, and wasn’t seriously hurt. Napravnik will ride Five Sixteen on Saturday in the Belmont Stakes.

Ortiz was aboard Logical Order along the rail at the top of the stretch when he appeared to get bumped by Tycoon Cat. Ortiz went down and lay on the turf until emergency personnel could reach him. He was taken away by ambulance.

A track spokesperson said Ortiz Jr. was conscious when he was hospitalized after complaining of neck and back pain.
